Saline Landscape & Design believes in doing good work.

We’ll design a plan for your patio, planting beds, walkways, outdoor living spaces, and then our crew will build it. Whether you know exactly where you want a fire pit and retaining wall, or you aren’t sure what you want to do just yet, we’ll give you some good ideas that are a bit different from the rest of the neighborhood. Give us a call and let’s talk about it.

Mike Saline
Owner / Estimator

At eight years old, Mike got his first job pulling weeds under the potting beds at Engwall Florist and greenhouse, owned by his family. For the next 10 years, he spent every summer in the greenhouses, caring for the plants and property. In 2010, he started Saline Landscape & Design. When he’s not drawing landscape plans, returning client phone calls, or pitching in on a wildflower garden, Mike can be found cross country skiing, mountain biking, or running around the forest with his wife; Kristin, their son; Sig, daughter; Anna and dog; Otto.

Rebekah Johnson
Landscape Architect / Lead Designer

Rebekah grew up near the East Coast shore, camped her way across the country on family vacations, landed in Illinois for a Masters degree in Landscape Architecture, practiced for a short while in Austin, Texas, and found her home in beautiful Duluth 13 years ago. In her design practice, she gets most excited by the powerful relationship between the land and the people who live and gather there. For the past eight years, Rebekah has been designing nature playscapes and outdoor classrooms for children across the state with 3 Owls Outdoor Play Consultants, LLC. She & her family (husband + four kiddos) love the beach, the woods, and the people they find here in MN!

Cody Thran
Senior Crew Lead

Our clients love Cody. It’s because he does such a good job of understanding what each clients wants, keeps them in the loop, and keeps our crew on time, on budget, and tidy. Also because he’s just an all around great guy. Cody’s been in charge of client projects from the beginning. Originally from the Twin Cities, Cody and Mike met when they worked together at Spirit Mountain. When he’s not building rock walls or laying a brick patio with the crew, you can find Cody in his wood working shop, or playing Disc golf with his dog Poppy.

Soren Dybing
Crew Lead

Soren joined Team Saline with a solid background in landscaping and job costing. Clients appreciate his calm demeanor, attention to detail, and professionalism. He’s never one to shy away from hard work or problem-solving challenges, making him a trusted leader among the crew. Off the clock, Soren loves outdoor adventures. He is a talented skier, avid mountain biker, and speedy marathon runner. He has even hiked all of the Superior Hiking Trail! Soren also enjoys a good camping trip with his wife and their pup.

Quinlan Brown
Crew Lead

Quin is one of the best out there! He shows up everyday with a great attitude, tremendous work ethic, and an unmatched eagerness to get the job done right. Everybody loves working with Quin because he is a team player. Quin has been on Team Saline for a few years now, and previously had experience in the equipment world working for his family's local firewood business. Quin loves to get outdoors on his mountain bike or go camping.

Ross Bergsten
Crew Lead

If you’re searching for the perfect plant choice and installation, look no further than Ross! Ross has a degree in ecology and is our go to plant guide. He’s eager to teach the proper care and maintenance for your trees, lawn, wildflowers, or new planting bed. His approach to projects is very strategic and meticulous, never ignoring the small details.

Maren Kienitz
Office Manager

Maren loves working for Saline Landscape! Even though she’s mostly behind the scenes, you can find her bringing our crew job site snacks, watering the Saline nursery, or herding the dogs of Team Saline. One of her favorite aspects of working at the Saline office is keeping our books neat and organized. She also likes to offer team support and appreciation. While she is out of the office, Maren enjoys taking her dog, Houdini, on walks and playing violin in the Duluth Civic Community Orchestra. Maren is excited to meet you, stop by the office and visit her and Houdini (official couch supervisor) sometime!
